Declaring the Psychology Major

Students who indicate Psychology on their UC admissions applications will be considered proposed Psychology until they declare. To declare the General or Intensive Psychology major you must complete:

  • MathAM 3, Pre-Calculus for the Social Sciences (OR AM 6MATH 3 or 4, or AM 11A/ECON 11A, or MATH 11A or 11B, or 19A or 19B; OR 300+ on ALEKS Math Placement, or AP Calculus score of 3+)
  • PSYC 1: Introduction to Psychology (OR AP Psychology score of 4+)
  • StatisticsPSYC 2Introduction to Psychological Statistics (OR STAT 5, or STAT 7 & 7LOR AP Statistics score of 4+)

All courses required to declare the major must be taken for a letter grade. A minimum grade of C is required in courses taken to fulfill the math requirement. A minimum grade of B- is required in courses taken to fulfill the PSYC 1 and statistics requirements. Review the Major Admission Requirements for more information and options if the grade requirement has not been met.

Once these requirements are completed with the required course grades or scores, you can declare the Psychology major following the instructions below.

Students interested in declaring Psychology must complete the following:

2.  Verify that you have completed all of the declaration requirements for Psychology.

3. Submit this Major Declaration Request Form to initiate your declaration. 

Can't access the Google form? 

You must be signed into your UCSC Google account to access the form linked above. Use a browser not signed into any other Google accounts or open a private/incognito browser that requires you to sign into your UCSC account if you have trouble accessing the Google form.

Notifications of Petition of Major Declaration approval or denial will be sent to students' UCSC email.
